What is the OAR Exam?

Officer Selection Tool – The Officer Aptitude Rating (OAR)exam is a specialized assessment used by the U .S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard to evaluate candidates seeking non-aviation officer commissions. It measures your potential to succeed in officer training and military leadership positions.
Key Component of ASTB – The OAR is a subset of the Aviation Selection Test Battery (ASTB) but focuses only on the three sections relevant for non-aviation positions: Math Skills Test (MST), Reading Comprehension Test (RCT), and Mechanical Comprehension Test (MCT).
Scoring and Importance – OAR scores range from 20 to 80, with most successful candidates scoring between 40 and 60. For U.S Navy, score requirement is 45 marks and above and for Marine Corps ,its minimum 35 and above. Your score is a major factor in officer selection decisions and you must have a target to achieve minimum 50 marks and above ,it can significantly impact your competitiveness for limited commission spots.

Math Question

The Math Skills Test evaluates your ability to
solve problems using arithmetic, algebra,
geometry, and data interpretation. You’ll have
20 minutes to complete this section.

Reading Questions
